Comments: One of the classic old Westwood theaters, the Bruin used to suffer in comparison to the Village across the street but no longer. There are new rocking seats with cupholder armrests, a new floor and various other new bits. (The same seats and floor are also at the Village now.) (I think the new seats have a bit more room between them and the seat count has dropped a little; I'll try and find out.) In the past I'd noticed frequent focus problems that didn't appear to be operator error (as though there was a lens problem or something) but on my last visit (10/13/96) the image seemed as sharp as could be. I frequently overlook the Bruin but it's still one of the top theaters in town.

Tons of nearby places to eat, including the best 25 cent cookies anywhere right around the corner at Diddy Reese.

I've been told now that with the remodel, they got new projection equipment, and that's why it looks better. Absolutely a top theater now.

I can remember a time when where we went to the movies was just as important as the movies we went to see .... From the moment moviegoers arrived to buy their tickets, there was a sense of something special, a feeling that to step inside was to enter another time and place. - Gene Kelly
